About AustrianTimberBowl
Handcrafted wooden bowls and design objects made from local woods – crafted in Upper Austria.
AustrianTimberBowl is known for its durable, one-of-a-kind wooden pieces, crafted with a passion for materials, form, and authentic craftsmanship.
My Story
After nearly 25 years in the metalworking industry, I have fulfilled my lifelong dream: working creatively with wood.
To me, wood is more than just a material—it is a living, renewable resource that embodies tranquility, warmth, and character.
I am Reininger Gerold, the founder of AustrianTimberBowl. I choose to work alone so that I can give every piece the attention it deserves—from the selection of the raw wood to the final finish.
Wood as a material
I prefer to work with local woods from Austria.
I particularly enjoy using ash, apple, and pear wood —but I actually love all regional wood species, as each has its own grain, color, and history.
It is precisely this naturalness that makes every bowl and every object truly one-of-a-kind.

Handcrafted in Upper Austria · Locally sourced wood · Each piece is one-of-a-kind
Handcrafting the workpiece—from raw wood to its initial shape.
The starting point of every project: local wood in its natural form.
Between the first step and the finish line – half-finished bowls await the next step in the process.
A one-of-a-kind piece made of ash—a harmonious blend of color, wood, and form.
This is where my work comes to life—in a calm, focused atmosphere, step by step.
Patience is part of the process: storing and drying raw wood before further processing
My Approach
1. Selecting the Wood
I work with locally sourced woods from Austria. The grain, texture, and character of the wood determine what a piece is best suited for.
2. Rest & Preparation
The wood is cut, prepared, and given time. Patience is an important part of my work—it ensures stability and durability.
3. Handcrafting on the wood lathe
Each piece is crafted by hand, step by step. I work deliberately slowly to follow the wood and respect its unique characteristics.
4. Finishing & Surface
After turning, the shape and surface are carefully refined. Small irregularities remain visible—they make each piece unique.
5. The finished, one-of-a-kind piece
The result is a piece with character: functional, timeless, and built to last for many years in everyday life or in the home.
